THE RESULT
Prior to shooting we sent an email to the staff giving them a heads-up of the shoot. We also sent a list of questions that they may be asked and made it clear that participation was not mandatory as a way to ease the pressure of a camera. Additionally, I held some questions from the email so that I could be sure of "off the cuff" responses that would contribute to the authentic feel of the project. I did the interviews over two days, with senior level staff on day one and other employees on day two. This gave me an opportunity to meet and build rapport with the other staff before interviewing them the next day which allowed for a much more relaxed and fun set experience for the staff. Because there was no "script," and I had 12 interviews to go through, I took the responses from the employees and fed them into a speech-to-text converter. With all of the responses now in a text format, I could easily chop and arrange the responses to create a narrative and drive towards the story. From there it was only a matter of making the physical edits and layering in the b-roll to get to the final result.
