THE CONCEPT

Who doesn't love The Oregon Trail?

WAV and Cambium Networks were looking for a unique way to engage customers and create net new opportunities within the Internet Service Provider industry. I pitched multiple web based interactive experiences and ultimately decided on an industry specific version of "The Oregon Trail." The common thread between all concepts was "community." Much of target demographic are small town service providers that are doing what they can to provide internet access to areas that larger service providers don't see as profitable. I wanted to create an experience that acknowledges that hard work and says "thank you," to these unsung heroes across our nation.

THE EXECUTION

Sometimes you bite off more than you can chew.

Having never built a game before, I didn't really know where to start, so I just started drawing flow charts on paper of how I thought the game should progress. Eventually I moved my sketches online and built out the flows in Miro which ultimately became the instructions for coding the logic flows. With the rough stages of game logic completed, I moved on to the visual design and aesthetic of the game so that we would have the assets when it came time to build. While working through the creative I had technical resources from Cambium Networks review the "game challenge" sections to make sure things were technically accurate and actually possible with their products. Once we had the green light from the technical team and finalized copy, I shipped everything off to the developer to actually code the game.

THE RESULT

One guy said, "That's friggin' cool!" The game is only soft-launched at the time of writing this, but the initial reactions have been great. The target audience has been responding well to the game and it seems the appreciation has been felt with another service provider saying, "Seeing a WISP operation condensed into an on screen package is very entertaining and humbling."
